Stack layer 04 · Automation
Inspection that responds to what it finds.
Today, an inspection is a fixed script: scan everything the same way, interpret later, rescan if someone notices a problem. The automation layer closes the loop between inspection, interpretation, and action, so the system spends its measurement budget where the structure demands it. This layer is Sondera's long-term destination, and we label it that way.
Roadmap · decision support first, autonomy the destination
The progression
Five steps from reports to autonomy.
Decision support
Results ranked, mapped to acceptance criteria, and packaged so an engineer signs off on evidence. The near-term deliverable.
Workflow automation
Routine calls cleared automatically, ambiguous ones routed to experts with context. Inspection throughput scales without diluting judgment.
Adaptive inspection
The system adjusts scan parameters and requests additional measurements where confidence is low, while the part is still on the scanner.
Closed-loop inspection
Acquisition, interpretation, and re-acquisition run as one loop, with scanners and robots directed by the intelligence layer.
Autonomous inspection
Inspection systems that plan, conduct, and document inspections with human oversight rather than human operation. The long-term destination.
A concrete example
What an adaptive inspection looks like.
- Scanner acquires inspection data.
- Embedded processing evaluates signals locally.
- AI detects a possible defect.
- Confidence is evaluated.
- If confidence is insufficient, the system requests additional measurements.
- Scan parameters are adjusted.
- The area is reinspected.
- The model reevaluates the indication.
- A decision or operator recommendation is produced.
