Stack layer 03 · Intelligence
Physics before prediction.
The intelligence layer transforms raw inspection signals into reliable engineering information. Sondera does not treat NDE measurements as arbitrary images to pattern-match: every model is tied to the physics that produced the signal, from the damage mechanics in the material to the wave that interrogated it. This is the layer where Sondera's founding research lives, and it is operational today.
The chain of custody
From a physical defect to an engineering answer.
Every arrow in that chain is modeled, not assumed. That is what lets a detector trained largely on simulated data transfer to real hardware measurements, and what makes each answer defensible when an inspector asks why.
What the layer does
Five capabilities, one discipline.
01
Signal processing
Raw waveform → filtered signal → feature representation
Denoising, deconvolution, alignment, and feature extraction tuned to each modality's physics. Raw measurements become clean, comparable, decision-ready data.
02
Physics-based modeling
Material + geometry + excitation → simulated response
Finite-element damage simulation and full-wave electromagnetic and elastodynamic solvers reproduce the measurement itself. Simulation is not an illustration here; it is a data source.
03
AI
Measurements + physics + simulation → detection and characterization
Deep learning trained on physics-coupled synthetic data detects, localizes, sizes, and classifies defects. The patent-pending synthetic data engine removes the labeled-data bottleneck that blocks AI from reaching the inspection floor.
04
Confidence and uncertainty
Prediction → confidence → engineering interpretation
Every call ships with a confidence measure. Borderline indications stay borderline, uncertainty is quantified, and results remain explainable and traceable to their evidence.
05
Multi-modal intelligence
THz + UT + CT + future modalities → one fused picture
Because every modality shares the same damage physics upstream, their measurements can be fused downstream, corroborating indications across independent physical channels.
